This page is an experiment. It is an attempt to send a communication in to the future with the hope that some future person or machine might come across this page, follow the instructions herein, and provide proof that they are from the future.
The experiment is simple (at least for me) and is described below:
The Experiment:
Rationale:
I thought that this experiment might work for the following reasons. First, I imagine that people in the future would study our society much in the way that our current scientists, anthropologists, archaeologists and such study people from our own past. Knowing that everything that is made available on our Internet is archived in various places, I imagine that it is possible that an archive of this page might survive well in to the future where machines programmed to sift through the vast archives of the past for research purposes might alert a future researcher to this page, and they in turn might follow these instructions. At least that is my hope.
To prevent someone from the present from pulling a prank by finding this page and sending me a letter meant to fool me, I will only leave this page up for 24 hours. That leaves no time for someone to find this page and send me a letter that could arrive by tomorrow (within the 24 hours) unless they indeed have the ability to travel enough in to the past to send the letter so it would arrive on time.
To anyone from my own time who happens across a copy of this page and thinks it is stupid - I say go ahead and laugh. One never knows if something like this would work unless one tried it.
To the person from the future who reads this: thank you in advance for taking part in this experiment. Much happiness to you.
- Jeff
The experiment is simple (at least for me) and is described below:
The Experiment:
- I will leave these instructions online for the next 24 hours.
- During that time, the person in the future who reads this is kindly asked to travel back to the past and send me a postal letter through the United States Mail such that it arrives at my residence on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
- It is assumed that the person in the future will be able to search for and find a record of my address.
- The letter itself, should it arrive on the correct date, will be evidence that this experiment was carried out, but I ask that the person in the future who sends the letter would please enclose some communication that would indicate beyond a doubt that they are indeed from the future.
