Music For Meddies
(Click here to listen to the music)

My name is Jeff Williams. I am a lifelong musician, and more recently, a creator of electronic music, who has Medullary Thyroid Cancer.

I have created this section of my Seldom Sky site as a place to share some of my ambient electronic music with people who have Medullary Thyroid Cancer, as well as their loved ones, friends, care givers - anyone who is going through the life altering process of having this cancer, or who is going through this experience with someone who does.

It is my hope that the soothing and spiritual nature of this music will help to bring peace, serenity, calm and healing to you, who are affected by MTC.

A little about my own experience with having MTC is detailed below.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about my music, my cancer experience, or if you know of any other ways that I could benefit others by making this kind of music. I'm so happy you have found my site, and wish you and your loved ones all the best!

What is a Meddie?

Meddie is a term for someone who has Medullary Thyroid Cancer. As far as I know, the term originated on a Facebook group called Medullary Thyroid Cancer - MTC. This is a wonderful group for people with MTC and their supporters.

(Due to the private nature of the information shared among those in the group, it is a CLOSED group. To join the group, go to the Facebook page and contact the Admin using the link provided.)

My wife, Brooke, and I have been members of the group for over five years now, and credit the information we learned from the group for saving my life! When I was first diagnosed with this cancer, we of course asked our doctors for everything they could tell us, as well as conducting our own research on the Internet. We were determined to learn as much about this cancer as possible!

However, MTC is such a rare cancer that there is a surprising lack of important, vital information out there, even with doctors. Had we not learned what we did from the MTC group, the path I would have been lead down would have been a much less successful one.

So to all of you on the MTC group that helped us so much - THANK YOU!!!!!!!

A Little About My Cancer and Music
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Medullary Thyroid Cancer in May of 2014.

Very soon after, my wife Brooke discovered the Facebook group Medullary Thyroid Cancer - MTC which was the first of many blessings and miracles that have occurred in our lives as we walk this difficult journey together. It was through this group’s care and generous sharing of information that we were lead to seek treatment at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. There we met Dr. Gary Clayman, one of the best MTC head and neck surgeons in the world, who performed my surgery.

As a result of my cancer, and the surgery and radiation I needed, I lost the use of my left vocal cord, which meant I could no longer sing. As a lifelong musician and singer/songwriter, this was a very hard thing to accept – I was no longer able to do the thing I loved most in the world. I spent almost a year after surgery with a trach tube in my neck. The first few months I couldn't really talk at all and used a dry erase board and pen to communicate. Now, my voice is permanently hoarse and weak, and I am completely unable to sing.

During the long period of recovery from my surgery and radiation I was unable to sleep lying down. For many many nights I slept sitting upright on the couch, or more often than not, I’d just sit awake in the middle of the night in discomfort and feeling low, trying to pass the time.

It was during those long nights that I spent many hours listening to relaxing music online. I was particularly drawn to ambient electronic music because of the beautiful way it calmed my spirit, relaxed my body, and gave me hope. It was because of these benefits that I began creating my own ambient electronic music. Eventually I came to realize that by sharing my music with other Meddies, perhaps they too could enjoy the same peace and serenity, hope and healing that I discovered in this music, and that I have been blessed with the ability to create during this new chapter of my life.

And so the idea to make Music For Meddies was born.

I hope that you enjoy and benefit from my music.

Peace and Love!
