somewhere out of the blue I recalled a strange evening
gazing into the sky as I walked through the snow
lonely as I was I kept you right outside my window
for a long time, for a long long time
whistling a sad song as you sailed out of view
soon you would be gone and you'd never return
and I'd go on without you, without you
I became a watcher of the sky above
though heaven is hard to see
it doesn't really matter where I find myself
I search the sky for where you used to be
sailing the night sky on a frozen white light
you were leading me to you as I walked through the night
lonely as I was I wandered off into a daydream
a star shined in my mind's eye long ago
whistling a sad song as you sailed out of view
soon you would be gone and you'd never return
and I'd go on without you, without you
I became a watcher of the sky above
though heaven is hard to see
it doesn't really matter where I find myself
I search the sky for where you used to be
somewhere in the still night in the darkness of space
you listen to the cries of of a lost human race
racing toward the Sun you see the world is slowly turning
but we're all gone, we're all long gone
